GYFC dominated from start to finish as they truimphed 4-2.

On a seperate note, ZHI RUIberto dreamt that he had scored a goal like the one below. It did not happened.

In Brisbane, England were crushed by the Australians as their defence of the Ashes succumbed to the worst possible start.

Of Rugby, Emirates and the Ashes

A busy week for me in terms of a spectator of sports.

Saturday 18 Nov 2006

England VS South Africa @ Twickenham

Before the game England was on the back of seven defeats, their worst run in 34 years. South Africa are not faring much better and the teams will meet again in the group stages in next year's rugby World Cup.

Great game in the end. The Springboks took the lead at first 13-8 then at 21-13. Phil Vickery scored a late late try and Andy Goode converted it to make it 23-21 for a victory.

Twickenham is an awesome stadium. The atmosphere was great as well. In Rugby matches, beer can be brought into the ground and there is no segregation between the fans!! It's a good family atmosphere, not like football.

Arsenal VS Hamburg @ Emirates

The shame was I didn't have my camera with me, but hey, mental pictures last forever.

Rafael van der Vaart scored a great goal after 4 minutes, but an Arsenal fight-back in the second ensured that they are in pole position to go thru.

I witnessed the pace of Walcott in action and yes, I really thinks that he will be a superstar in time to come. Henry has lost it this season - he looks like a lost sheep upfront.

Australia VS England @Brisbane.

The Ashes is back. England are the underdogs but hey every dog has its day.

A blast from the past

Welcome to the OC Bi-atch!

Anyone missed the hotties on the O.C.?
Sorry no Mischa Barton this time round though...

"Right-Back" where he belongs

News of another draw match filtered in soon after it ended. Dunno if i have gotten the facts right, ROYnaldo had a hand in 2 goals.. opposition ones.. Apparently we need to consider this : Is Right-Back where he belongs? or should we put him right back to where he belongs ----> the bench. Nothing interesting to update, meanwhile just suck on this :

It's Me Again...

by GYPoh

I got nothing much today. Just read about more people complaining about GST. Found a blog that at least tries to reserve judgement till the full effects of the hike are felt. Gayle Goh writes pretty sound economics essay for someone her age. At least she got more of her economics fundamentals right. But don't starting salivating yet guys, she's NOT foxy...

For those that missed it, here's a transcript of
President Bush's speech at NUS. Be forewarned, it is a rather lengthy transcript. And being the GY that I am, I refuse to give any highlights of the speech. I didn't catch any boo-boos in his speech though, which can be thought of as an improvement?

Poker enthusiasts should know that the finals of the
first official poker tournament organised by Betfair will be held on Friday (17/11/06) at the Meuritus Mandarin. Total prize money up for grabs is over U$1.5m.

Ok that's all I got. Hold on mates, Friday is almost upon us...

Daily Reads

by GYPoh

Seems like the only interest my daily reads have generated is the link to jphotobook with it's "artistic" pictures. You people make me sick! Anyway more of the same since this is probably the easiest way for me to update and maintain the blog on a more regular basis. Other contributors could do the same as there can never be enough interesting links on the web eh?

Following the furor generated by the PM's annoucement to increase GST to 7%, I felt the need to seek out more neutral opinions instead of the usual outcries of death to the government that has become the norm for netizens whenever a new government policy is annouced. Andy Mukherjee, a columnist with Bloomberg living in Singapore, sums up nicely the reprecussions of the planned GST hike. A good and short read for the economic and social ramifications of the proposed hike.

Fans of Liverpool weep! For it seems our only reasonable target this season is fourth place in the premiership. How the mighty have fallen. With only less than a third of the season gone no less...

Underneath all the moaning about GST, let us not forget that several fundamental changes have also been made to our penal code. Much joy to those who enjoy a little bit of spice and adventure in the bedroom, you now have no fear that at any moment a SWAT team will burst through your door and arrest you. However admist some of the changes is a little gem that perhaps escaped your eyes. Already strict controls on internet content have now been made tighter with harsher penalties. Read what the FT and IFEX has to say.

Entertainment news, and reports say that Oprah is not invited to TomKat's wedding. Could this be due to a little couch-jumping incident? And for all you closet Kylie fans (myself included), looks like she's back doing the locomotion!

(Almost) Daily Reads

More links for those with the time. Mixture of politics, economics and entertainment links. Enjoy!

Could Singapore really be Asia's "Switzerland"? I never knew that Singapore had such relaxed laws that favoured the filthy rich. Little wonder our income gap is widening:

Mongolian models and Malaysian politics... Who knew the two could be so closely tied? For those that aren't familiar with the Mongolian model scandal, I'm afraid there isn't much of a summary in this article:

Some of the girls here are unbelieveable. Not to sure if it's meant to be art or porn but I'm not worrying about that. Beware, nsfw:

A foreigner's impressions of Singapore from 1993. I think it's a little harsh, but we've come a long way since then (I hope!):

Woe and behold! Prices are going up again. GST will be increased to 7%, because, according to PM Lee, it's better to raise GST when the economy is doing well. Funny how it seems the GST never decreases when the economy is not doing so well though...

Today's Reads

My attempt at more regular updates to the blog. Links to articles I'm been reading during a slow day at work.

Seems like Wee Shu Min has set the blogosphere ablaze with her name being one of the top searches in
Technorati. Melissa McNamara is a news producer/reporter with CBSNews.com and has picked up on the little news story that has gotten our island talking:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/11/06/blogophile/main2156360.shtml

On a related topic, read about the adventures of Elite Girl:
http://www.insanepoly.com

Britney Spears turns K-Fed into Fed-ex! And here I was thinking that they were a match made in heaven:
http://www.tmz.com/2006/11/07/britney-spears-files-for-divorce/

And they say men are heartless. How confident are you that your partner won't be doing this to you? Time to slap on a little more protection of you get what I mean:
http://men.style.com/details/features/landing?id=content_5092

I don't even know why he registered this domain name... Perhaps we should have followed his lead and chosen a more "eye-catching" name for this blog:
http://www.kukujiao.com/

Lastly, I've got this invite for a party at a club (?) over at Dempsey Road on Friday (10/11/06). I've never been to the place, haven't been to Dempsey in over half a year, don't know the person who sent me this invite. But if any of you are keen, feel free to contact me and we could go check it out and chill out at Dempsey:

Match Report

FT: Portugal FC 3 GYFC 0
05 Nov 2006
Rainbow Valley (Formerly Police Academy)
Attendance: 0

Robbed of the services of starlet Vincenzo Iquainta two hours before kick-off, GYFC struggled as they were crushed 3-0 by resurgent Portugal FC side.

Vincenzo reportedly failed a sex test at 7am and did not turn up as his team mates geared up for one of the biggest game in the season.

The match began with Portugal FC asking all the early questions. GYFC could do very little to get into their usual passing game. Even before the game reached the half-hour mark, GYFC players were seen panting and asking for substitutes.

Not surprisingly, PFC took the lead when PFC no.9 latched on to a pass over the defence to send a loping shot right pass the inexperienced Roynaldo in goal.

During the half-time teamtalk, de-facto captain Zhi Ruiberto was heard screaming and lamenting his team's apparent lack of fitness, skill, technique and commitment. His words did appear to motivate the team as GYFC linked up well early in the second half to create the few opportunities they had in the entire game.

Pohdolski and Roynaldo were both wasteful as the failed to beat PFC's Dutch (wannabe) goalkeeper.

Lapses of concentration later in the second proved all so costly again as GYFC crumbled and allowed PFC to make the score 3-0.

In a post-match conference, Jingmie Carragher told the press about his new found abilities, 'I can tell if a team is good by looking at 2 of their players.'

It was later revealed that he had initially predicted a GYFC whitewash after seeing 2 of PFC players.

The fans/players gathered after the game and called for team manager/captain Zhi Ruiberto to arrange a match against the legendary Benny's team. The last time GYFC clashed with Benny's Team, the GYs walked away with a 10-1 romp.

It's too early to judge Zhi Ruiberto's abilities to arrange such a game, but judging by what the fans witness at Rainbow Valley, his time will be up soon if he cannot turn the tables.
