Have you seen this?
Thursday, May 24, 2007
So this is it ... like you said it would be ...
It was the final day of the Premiership. Sheffield United went into it 3 points clear of Wigan and looks likely to secure safety.
They however lost 2-1 in front of their home fans, in a match which their striker missed an open goal by hitting the post.
Immediately after the game, Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock walked towards Paul Jewell and shook his hand to offer congrats.
5 minutes after the end of the game, he braced himself for the press and said this,
"There are a lot of things that are worse than this in life, although at this point it does not feel so"
This is almost exactly what I want to feel now. Defeat was bitter. But yes, there are worse things in life.
After all, we had to get this far to get this disappointed. The scumbags from Manchester did not even make it here, nor did the pretenders from West London.
Oh by the way, I had a good time tonight. Wasn't as magical as 2005, but non-magical nights like this make me treasure magical nights even more.
For tonight, I saw the beauty of defeat. I have never seen so many grown men weep openly in a pub. I have never seen more inconsolable ladies gathered at one venue. I have never had more pats on my shoulders as I prodded quickly to the exits after a match.
PS: My thoughts are with the McCanns. Hope Maddy is alive and safe.Wednesday, May 23, 2007
Are you watching, Manchester?

- 70.
- 9.

- White. If all sides have southern exposure, the house is at the North Pole.

So how did you score?

A Change of Pace
My church, i.e. xxxxxxxxxxx has issued a call for us to write in to register with the government, prior to the Parliament debate in July, to state our stand against the Decriminalising of Section 377A of the Penal Code (S377A) (laws that essentially criminalise hormosexual acts).
This is not just a Christian thing, I am writing this email to appeal to you, as citizens of this nation, to write in so that the voice of the masses can be heard. Together, we can make a difference.
I do hope that as you understand more about the potential gravity of the situation, you will write or forward your emails to the ministries and/or Ministers and/or MPs. It doesn't have to be a thesis but a few lines to state your concern as citizens of this nation that our stand is for Section 377A to be preserved in its entirety. We do not wish to see our children grow up in an environment where homosexuality is not only condoned but promoted as an alternative lifestyle.
I quote the article: "Parliament may pass laws which reflect the public good in preference over the rights of the individual or groups." and I believe that truly the majority of the population will deem it good to preserve the code.
Just to clarify that the church (i.e. Christians) hate the sin (i.e. homosexuality) and not the sinners (homosexuals)... even as we write in or share with our friends (believers or not) to ask them to join in this cause, we remember that it is important to show love to the homosexuals and not come across as Christian fundamentalists out to condemn that group of individuals. Jesus is love, so while we do not tolerate the sin, we still love those that are yet bound in the lifestyle of homosexuality.
Christian or not, we believe that this is an issue that all Singaporeans that are not for homosexuality should make a stand for. So dear friends, let's do our part to preserve righteousness and integrity in our nation.
I'm not too sure about the viewpoints expressed in this letter though. Although I advocate the verbal jousting in the local media, the involvement of the Church in the fray is somewhat unsuitable. There's a reason why Church and State should be seperated. Imposing the viewpoints of a single religion/belief system that is not universal onto the masses is in my books, wrong. But, my question is, is the content of the message relevant? Or just the fact that the message comes from the Church imposing it's views gives us cause to frown upon it?
For the record, I'm pro-choice. Personally I do not advocate an alternate lifestyle, but I believe in the right to choose. On a side note, more homosexual men means more foxy ladies for the rest of us blokes, eh?
Share with us your viewpoint.

Random Post
Some minor updates I guess.
- CSC is back in town till Saturday. Maybe we could do some drinks on Friday night, ie tonight.
- But not for me. Doctor's orders.
- Mother's day is on Sunday in case anyone forgets. So better get off your arse and order those flowers or book that table at the restaurant if you haven't. GYs overseas, time to call home.
- GYFC has been on a roll, a losing roll that is. Maybe age is really catching up even with the best of us.
More random stuff. During my daily exploration of the World Wide Web, I chanced upon this video. Don't know why, but it just catches my attention (down south), if you catch my drift. Watch it!
Moving on, those familiar with the local blogger going by the moniker of Mr. Brown should find this amusing. It's Bak Chor Mee Man 2! Have to say it's pretty creative how he manages to "mock" recent geo-political events in our tiny island country with the Bak Chor Mee Man. Listen on!
Lastly, I have to admit it's been a slow month of May for me so far. Hence I've been passing my time reading this gem of a webcomic. This is now my all time favourite comic, replacing Dilbert. Check out it's wikipedia entry for more on the characters in it. Read it!

The Sights and Sounds of Taipei
The update on my new home, Taiwan was long overdue. Finally i overcame my laziness to post a short and sweet entry but apparently it wasn't enough to quench some GY's thirst for Taiwan. In order to attract a larger tour group in July, i will do my part.....
Famous Smelly Tofu Street (深坑老街)
The whole stretch down the road revolves around one type of food, 臭豆腐. For those who can only stand this kind of smell in the toilet, here's a trick for you : Attempt to eat the food only when you walked back from the end of the street. Because by then, you are too accustomed to the fragrance of the ever famous 臭豆腐.. i did it, so can you!
CKS Memorial Hall (中正紀念堂)
總統府
Wulai Scenery (烏來風景區)
貓空飲茶(Cat Hole La Teh)
YangMingShan (陽明山)
Another scenic place is one of the National Park, the 陽明山. Though by the time i visited, the flower seasons was over, there were still some stubborn flowers that refused to wither. For once i like stubbornness...Nonetheless, there was plenty of fresh air to inhale and plenty of slopes to work out your thigh muscles...My next trip up will be to watch the sunrise... hand in hand... rest assured it's not going to be with G@Y.....
Talking about quality of life, here's a table bbq place a stone throw away from my place. Pretty decent food : beef, prawns and all... i had my mouth full...
Ferris Wheel (摩天輪)
There was one place we had to visit when Xinyi came visiting.
The Baltics, Books and Bandawagon
Mention the Baltics and what comes to mind is likely to be drab ex-communist cities filled with grey buildings. Not quite, judging by my Easter trip there.
Tallinn, Vilnius and Helsinki are all quite pretty, just a shame that April is not the best time to visit. I heard the summer are gorgeous, with very long days. Highly recommended, given the very cheap food and beer.
Some of the sights (no sound).
Back to college for me now, can't answer the emails as often (unless i do a Songling).
